A beautifully lacquered Hokkai Bako or Japanese ‘picnic basket’ on three legs with a removable lid. These types of boxes were used to present dishes at ceremonies such as weddings.
It features a stunning ring-shaped design and is marked at the bottom. The exterior is lacquered in black, and the lid is adorned with a red flower at the top. The interior is beautifully vermillion red, showcasing urushi lacquer work.
Practical as a jewelry box or for storing small items. An authentic piece of Japan for your interior.
In very good condition with normal signs of use. Comes with the original wooden storage box.
